Lena Tsodykovskaya is an LA-based film, commercial and music video director.
Born in Moscow, Russia, Lena started as a photographer for MTV Russia as well as an assistant for various Russian television programs, working her way up to director. Along with a partner, she founded Toy TV, a production company specializing in music videos and web commercials.
With a passion for more narrative storytelling Lena moved to New York City and was accepted into Columbia University’s MFA Film Program, concentrating as a director. In her time there, Lena saw her short films screened and awarded at multiple film festivals around the world.
While at Columbia, Lena also worked as a Director of Photography. The films she shot premiered at multiple festivals, with one of them becoming a semifinalist in the 2015 Student Academy Award competition.
Her thesis short, Mother’s Day, which she directed in the Spring of 2016, was nominated for an HBO Production Grant. Lena was chosen to direct the trailer for the Columbia University Film Festival (2015), premiering at the Lincoln Center in New York City. For her collaboration with the musicians who worked on the project, Lena won the ASCAP/Columbia University Music Collaboration Award.
In 2015, a year before finishing the program at Columbia University, Lena was invited to direct TV commercials for the Russian market. Since then has traveled back and forth between two continents: developing narrative projects in Los Angeles, directing commercials in Russia and creating professional relationships based on respect, mutual trust and creative collaboration. Some of the world-known agencies and brands she has collaborated with are: Coca-Cola, McDonald's, Adidas, Samsung, Nissan, Yves Saint Laurent, Raiffeisen Bank, BBDO, DDB, TBWA, McCann Erickson and MullenLowe among many others.
In 2017, Lena directed a wildly popular commercial digital series entitled “Life’s Complicated” for Raiffeisen Bank. The series premiered to over 7 million total views on YouTube Russia in its first three days of release and remained in the TOP 10 most popular videos for the following week.
At the moment, Lena is an MFA Columbia University graduate living in Los Angeles and developing her first feature.
